Echinacea
The herbs and roots of both Echinacea augustifolia and
Echinacea purpurea do have different medicinal properties.
In general, echinacea provides support for the cellular
immune system.6 It has anti-inflammatory, immune-stimulating,
bacterialcidal and wound healing actions, depending
on the plant species type. It stimulates white blood
cells and is also beneficial for the lymphatic system,
colic, colds, cough, flu and other infectious illnesses.2
Barney notes it is recommended for "stubborn" yeast
infections and arthritic conditions.4 Clinical trials
have shown that echinacea purpurea increases viral resistance
against influenza. In a trial studying its effect on
upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), echinacea
augustifolia and purpurea, the study authors concluded
it may reduce one's risk of developing a URTI by 10-20
%.6 Products containing Echinacea Purpurea: Immuno Max.

an aphrodisiac.4 In Chinese medicine, practitioners
used it to treat cold pain in the lower abdomen, impotence
and hernia.6 In Indian medicine, it is used for fever,
vomiting, anorexia, coughs, bronchitis and colitis.6
Today, this herb is commonly used to eliminate mucous
